DIY Dinner: Intermediate Ceramics Dining Set
Interested in making your own dining set? This class is focused on creating beautiful plates and bowls that will be used for the DIY dinner and are then yours to keep forever.
You will learn the following:
Learn how to throw your own ceramics on a pottery wheel. By the end of this class you will have:
- Increased your mastery of pottery wheels and how to use them
- An understanding of the processes involved in throwing repeat numbers of ceramic forms
Retrieve the pieces you threw last time and use trimming tools to finalise its shape and texture. By the end of this class you will:
- Have given your works a refined shape and texture.
- Master the processes involved in throwing and trimming repeat ceramic forms
- Have a set of pieces ready for glazing
HAND BUILDING session:
This hand-building class introduces a broad approach to building functional clay objects. In this class you will:
- Master slab techniques & other forming methods
- Learn an incredibly efficient technique for forming beautiful plates
- Bisque fire in preparation for your glazing session
This is the last step, put the final touches on your pieces with a layer of glaze. In this class you will learn:
- To select glazes and under-glazes
- How to prepare your work for glazing
- How to apply dip and brush-on glazes
COLLECTING YOUR WORK:
Once your pieces have been glaze fired (usually within 2 weeks of your last class), you can come pick them up. You will end this class with 3 or 4 beautiful and functional plates and bowls. But please let us borrow them for the communal dinner!
The class fee includes 8 hours tuition, materials, glazes and firing.
It also a banquet dinner on September 24 on the rooftop of the Old Clare Hotel.
ABOUT THE DIY DINNER SERIES:
As part of our 'DIY Dinner' series you will also be invited to our final communal dinner on the rooftop of The Old Clare Hotel in Chippendale where your knives will ceremoniously carve some of the meat dishes served during the feast. Your ticket price covers a banquet meal shared with everyone else who has participated in making the table, the plates, the table settings and the carving knives as part of courses held at MakerSpace & Co. You will enjoy a delicious feast served by the amazing team at Barzaari Chippendale (who also have a restaurant in our local Marrickville neighbourhood) and join in a group photo of everyone involved in the DIY Dinner series.
About our teacher:
Remy Pajaczkowski-Russell is a Sydney based ceramicist who works between making production domestic ware and his sculptural practice. He trained in Sydney at the National Art School majoring in ceramics before moving to France to work in traditional French studio potteries in La Borne. Since returning from France, Remy has been working in the ceramic field in Sydney in a variety of different roles, from artists assistant and studio management to teaching and course designing.
MakerSpace is an 18+ facility, and our classes and facilities are designed for adults.

Unfortunately our new space cannot offer suitable wheelchair access. We are currently working on improving our facilities to make them accessible for all.

Refunds: MakerSpace requires a minimum of 5 days (or 120 hour) notice in writing to receive a 75% refund for change of mind. If you miss this window, we recommend you gift (or sell) your place to someone who will use it and love it. Class places are fully transferable. Email email@example.com
Cancellations: We rarely cancel classes, but occasional things come up beyond our control. Our classes are very small to ensure you have a great learning experience, but we need a minimum of 4 students to run most of our classes. If a class is cancelled, we will get in touch by phone or email, and discuss your options which include refund, credit or transfer to another date.
Kids in classes: MakerSpace classes are designed for adults. Kids aged 14-17 can book this class on the condition that an accompanying adult also participates - which means booking two places. If you have questions about kids in the workshop, please read this.
