Intermediate Woodworking: Wooden Coffin Making
Once in a lifetime opportunity to put the nail in your own coffin. Now is the time to put those woodworking skills into practice so you can rest peacefully after all is said and done.
MakerSpace tenant and long term member Kim Ligers will guide you step by step through the construction of a reinforced ply coffin that doubles up as a shelving unit or storage trunk whilst not in use. Course members will construct a pre designed 6 foot 'toe pincher' style coffin and will have the opportunity to add their own custom finishing touches in the final week of the course.
"Historically in Latvia, every self-respecting (and self-sufficient) Latvian peasant would make their own coffin in preparation for the inevitable. Coffins were traditionally made while the maker was still young, often during a long winter, and would be kept in the attic until needed. You may not have an attic, so your coffin may spend most of its life holding books, wine, or music." - Kim, our coffin making course instructor.
