Description

Want to make intriguing patterns and geometric designs using wood? Want to learn Chelsea Lemon’s unique techniques? Learn to embellish your own furniture or create unique and eye-catching pieces with our Parquetry and Marquetry course!

During this intensive 2 day weekend workshop Chelsea will teach you how to use the natural grain, texture, and colour of wood to create classic patterns and designs. You’ll be taught a traditional technique of parquetry and will turn it into a completed project to take home. The projects will be roughly A4 size and can be hung on the wall or used as a decorative trivet or serving board. This course is designed for anyone (beginners most welcome) who would like to learn parquetry.

Run over two full days, there will be plenty of time to ask questions and get help from parquetry master, Chelsea. We advise students to bring their own lunch each day and we will supply tea and coffee.

 This class covers:

  • Timber grain, colour and texture selection
  • Cutting and creating the parquetry components – Louis Cubes
  • Assembling and gluing components
  • Gluing parquetry to substrate
  • Cutting of panel
  • Introduction and template to Chelsea’s technique

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Canberra based design & maker, Chelsea Lemon, works with timber to create furniture and parquetry pieces that are suggestive of natural forms. Chelsea’s work has been displayed in a range of exhibitions across Australia, including ‘Emerging Contemporaries’ at CraftACT and ‘Materialised‘ at Sturt Craft Centre. This year her parquetry work will be showcased in the 2017 Melbourne trade event ‘DENFAIR’. Chelsea’s practice incorporates art into craft and design, and offers a new perspective on Australian furniture design.
