In this class you will build on knowledge and skills gained in the Machine Knitting: Stitch and Pattern workshop. You will be exploring the more advanced possibilities of the ribber attachment, creating swatches demonstrating some great new techniques. This class is ideal if you are thinking about starting to knit garments.


We Will Cover

  • learning how to attach the ribber to the knitting machine
  • how to cast on
  • a variety of rib structures
  • creating swatches as examples of your new skills

 Once you have taken this course you can continue to use the machines as a MakerSpace members, or hone your new skills in our monthly supervised drop-in knit space sessions.

 Brother or Singer??? Do you have a knitting machine at home or have your eye on one? If you do and would like to learn your new skills on the machine you have please let us know. We have the choice of Brother or Singer.



Lorraine Cherry-Nguyen teaches this workshop. Lorraine has over 10 years experience in the fashion industry as a knitwear designer in the UK, Hong Kong and Sydney.

 Refunds: MakerSpace requires a minimum of 5 days (or 120 hour) notice in writing to receive a 75% refund for change of mind. If you miss this window, we recommend you gift (or sell) your place to someone who will use it and love it. Class places are fully transferable. Email

 Cancellations: We rarely cancel classes, but occasional things come up beyond our control. Our classes are very small to ensure you have a great learning experience, but we need a minimum of 4 students to run most of our classes. If a class is cancelled, we will get in touch by phone or email, and discuss your options which include refund, credit or transfer to another date. 

Kids in classes: MakerSpace classes are designed for adults. Kids aged 14-17 can book this class on the condition that an accompanying adult also participates - which means booking two places. If you have questions about kids in the workshop, please read this.
